What is SEO?

When the search engine visibility of a website or web page is improved via the organic (natural) or algorithmic (unpaid) search results, it is a process known as Search Engine Optimisation, abbreviated to SEO.

If a website is ranked higher on the search results page and appears in the search results list more frequently, it will receive more visitors from the search engine's users.

SEO may target different kinds of searches,
such as image search, local search, video search, academic search and news search.

SEO considerswhat people search for, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimising a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks or inbound links is another SEO tactic. SEO tactics may be incorporated into website development and design. The term, "Search engine friendly," may be used to describe website designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimised for the purpose of search engine exposure. The search engine determines which sites are relevant for the word(s) the user has typed, and the order in which to list them. This determination is worked out by an involved and complicated algorithm written into the search engine itself.

SEO techniques techniques can be classified into two broad categories: techniques that search engines recommend as part of good design, and those techniques of which search engines do not approve. A SEO technique is considered 'white hat' if it conforms to the search engine's guidelines and involves no deception. 'Black hat' SEO attempts to improve rankings in ways that are disapproved of by the search engines, or involve deception.

SEO has become a huge worldwide market place, in which companies are able to sell their services. It is an extremely competitive industry, but because the number of online businesses is forever increasing, the demand for SEO companies is growing too. SEO companies offer services that can incorporate many different factors and methods of optimising a website. Generally the owner just wants the traffic to pump continuously through the site as to increase revenue.
